Best X Schedulers (Formerly Twitter)
6 min read
X is the one network where the tooling got worse rather than better. When API access went from free to expensive, vendors absorbed the cost, limited what they offered, or quietly dropped features. Thread support is the usual casualty, and it is rarely mentioned on a pricing page.
Nineteen tools in this directory post to X. The practical question is not whether a tool supports it, but whether it supports the thing you actually publish, and at what price once the vendor’s own API bill is passed on.
What to check before you pay
Threads. The single most important question, and the one most likely to be answered badly. If you publish threads, confirm the tool composes and posts them as a connected chain rather than as separate posts. Some tools dropped this; some put it behind a higher tier.
Posting volume caps. Several vendors now limit how many X posts you can send per month, because each one costs them money. Check the number against what you actually post, not against what feels generous.
Analytics. Reading data back from X is expensive for vendors, so reporting is often thinner here than for other networks even in tools with good analytics elsewhere.
X Premium does not help. Paying for Premium gives you longer posts and native scheduling in the web app; it does not reduce what a third-party tool pays for API access, so it changes nothing about the tools here.
Worth knowing: X’s own web scheduler is free and works fine for single posts. If you post to X and nothing else, you may not need any of this.
1. SchedPilot
SchedPilot leads this directory for its native MCP server beside the REST API, which lets an AI assistant run publishing directly with no wrapper to maintain. On X that pays off more than elsewhere, because the useful work is volume: turning one idea into several differently-framed posts is exactly what an assistant is good at.
Flat pricing at $21 for five accounts and $35 for twenty, with nine networks natively, so X sits in the same queue as everything else.
Stated plainly: no free plan, team seats only at $79, no listening — which stings on X specifically, since monitoring mentions is half of what people want from the network. Verify current thread behaviour during the trial.
2. Typefully
The specialist, and on X it beats every all-rounder here. Typefully at $12.50 a month is built for writing rather than scheduling: thread composition is the core interface, not a feature bolted on, and it shows you how each post will break before you publish.
There is a free plan. If your X presence is a person writing threads rather than a brand pushing links, this is the pick and the rest of this page is noise.
It covers X and LinkedIn and little else, so it is a second subscription rather than a replacement if you run other networks. Analytics are basic.
3. Buffer
Buffer’s free plan includes X among its three channels, which given what API access now costs vendors is more generous than it looks. It is the calmest interface here with the best mobile app.
The queue model suits X well, because the network rewards consistent posting and the queue removes the daily decision about when.
$6 per channel per month past the free tier, thin analytics, no bulk import. Confirm current thread support before relying on it.
4. Metricool
At around $20 a month for five brands, Metricool remains the value pick for analytics, and on X the competitor benchmarking is the interesting part — seeing posting frequency and engagement for comparable accounts is harder to get here than on other networks.
Free plan available, so it is cheap to evaluate.
Dense interface, and X analytics are thinner than its Instagram or Facebook reporting for the API-cost reason above.
5. Publer
Publer at $5 for the first account and $4 after is the cheapest way to run several X accounts, with a free tier covering three. Bulk CSV import up to 500 rows and post recycling are both included.
Recycling suits X better than most networks, since the timeline moves fast enough that a good post from three months ago is new to most of your audience.
No analytics on the Professional plan. Check the monthly X posting cap on your tier before committing to a high-volume schedule.
6. Agorapulse
If replies and mentions are the real X workload, Agorapulse is the tool built for that. Assignment, saved replies, internal notes and collision detection so two people never answer the same mention, with listening included rather than sold on top.
X generates more inbound conversation per follower than any other network for most brands, which makes this less of a luxury than it first appears.
$79 per user per month is the problem — three people is roughly $2,840 a year. Only worth it if someone’s job is replying.
Which one to actually pick
A person writing threads
Typefully at $12.50, or its free plan. Nothing general-purpose on this page composes threads as well, and that is the whole job.
X and nothing else, low volume
X’s own scheduler, free. Do not buy a tool to replace something the platform already does adequately.
One brand across X and several other networks
Buffer free if three channels is enough, Metricool at about $20 once you want to know what worked.
Several X accounts, or clients
Publer on cost, SchedPilot on flat pricing past about five accounts. Check the posting caps on both.
Mentions and replies are the workload
Agorapulse, with the seat cost accepted. No publishing-only tool here will help.
Why thread support keeps disappearing
Worth understanding, because it explains behaviour that otherwise looks like vendors being careless.
Every post a tool sends on your behalf consumes paid API capacity the vendor bought. A thread of eight posts costs eight times a single post. Multiply across every customer and threads become the most expensive feature in a scheduler, for a network that is rarely anyone’s primary channel. So vendors cap volume, restrict threads to higher tiers, or drop them.
Two consequences for you. Treat thread support as a feature that can be withdrawn rather than a permanent capability, and keep your drafts somewhere you own. And if threads are central to what you do, pay the specialist whose entire business depends on supporting them rather than an all-rounder for whom X is one of nine boxes.
If you are building on an API rather than using a dashboard, our scheduler API comparison covers what each vendor exposes and what it costs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I schedule X posts for free?
Yes. X’s own web scheduler is free, and Buffer, Metricool, Publer and Typefully all have free tiers that include X. Given what API access costs vendors, expect free tiers here to be tighter than for other networks.
Which scheduler is best for threads?
Typefully, clearly. Thread composition is its core interface rather than an added feature, and it previews how each post breaks before publishing.
Does X Premium let me schedule more?
Premium gives you longer posts and native scheduling in X’s own app. It does not change what third-party tools pay for API access, so it has no effect on the tools here.
Why does my tool limit how many X posts I can send?
Because the vendor pays X per post sent through its integration. Caps are how they keep that cost predictable. Check the limit on your tier against your actual posting volume.
Do scheduled posts get less reach on X?
No. Posts sent through the official API arrive identically to manual ones. What costs reach is posting when your audience is asleep, which is a scheduling decision rather than a tooling one.
Can I schedule to X and Bluesky and Threads together?
Yes, though fewer tools cover all three than cover X alone. Our Bluesky and Threads shortlists show which ones, and the overlap is smaller than you would expect.
